| “Meeting Natalie at her consignment shop was the best thing that ever happened to us. She came into our home and made things possible that we never dreamed could be done. Moving our original furniture upstairs, where we barely had any furnishings, and complementing it with items from the consignment shop made our house a home. Natalie truly has a unique eye for decorating and knowing just the perfect thing that makes a room. I was nervous at first, but I “let it ride”. My husband said that Natalie is the expert and we need to go with the flow. And the rest is history. We have a beautiful home that we love coming home to. Both our new furniture and all the furniture and home accessories from the consignment shop fit together like a puzzle. We are so pleased with everything that Natalie provided to us and we hope that the friendship we formed over home decorating will continue on. Thanks Natalie and thanks Uniquely Natalie.” |

The condo rage on Long Island continues. This lovely couple was already living in a north shore condo when the wife attended one of my seminars at Uniquely Natalie. Shortly after, she invited me to come to her home to add some accessories. It’s always a challenge for the designer when asked to complete a room they never originally designed. There is an old proverb that says “honesty is the best policy”, but I truly wondered if I should chance it. After all, they were not my clients, but potential Uniquely Natalie customers and the purpose of my consignment store is to sell consignors items, right? Well, in typically “Natalie” fashion, I dove right in. Since the design plan featured a living room, dining room, kitchen, master bedroom and 1 ½ baths on the main floor with two bedrooms and a loft/den/office upstairs, I suggested moving the leather sectional from the downstairs living room upstairs to the den/office along with the end tables. Since the lady of the house was also the condo president, she got a proper desk and file area for her needs. Now the upstairs den looked great with existing pieces.
This left an empty living room (of course) and a decision to hire the firm to create a “livable” living room. With the decision to create a relaxed comfortable space, we set off to Conklin and Main to create a “coastal look”. The “decorating fairy” on my shoulder went with us and in less than a week, the entire living room was furnished with floor samples from the store and from Uniquely Natalie.
Somehow (I wonder how) the clients realized that their kitchen and dining room would look great with the same feeling, and the rest is history. In short order, the main level of the house came together with coordinating area rugs, new paint and finally, the accessories I was originally asked to do!
As an aside, there is one room upstairs that is very special to me because it is an office for the husband who is a veteran. He began his patriotic theme with a floor emblem, some flags and photographs. I added the rest from Uniquely Natalie and a rug that Peykar, searching everywhere, found for me.
I think the most wonderful part about opening Uniquely Natalie is that I get to know folks who might not ever have thought an interior designer would be helpful to them. Of course, once the see how much fun we can have and how much money they can save, it’s a win for everyone.
